Amfissa is the largest and the capital of the Fokida Regional Unity and the former Parnassida Province, with a population of 6,919 people. It is located south of Lamia, northwest of Livadia and Delphi, northeast of Nafpaktos and east of Lidoriki.

In the Middle Ages, it was known as “La Sole” or in Greek called “Salona”, but after the liberation of Greece in 1833, the city was finally and officially renamed Amfissa. It is one of the great cultural centers that has an Archaeological Museum, Folklore Museum, Municipal Library, Municipal Conservatory, Art Workshop, Children’s Library, Cultural Associations and Municipal Philharmonic and Chorus with a long tradition.
